Dr. Weston Miller
Chet began his medical career as an RN in his hometown at Abbeville General Hospital , after receiving his Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from UL-Lafayette in 1998. He was quickly promoted to Charge Nurse on Medicine/Pediatrics unit, and eventually found his niche in the Emergency Department. Looking to further his career and expertise, he obtained a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 2009 and Board Certification in 2010. Chet began work as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency Department of Abbeville General Hospital, and thereafter, worked at several other Emergency Rooms and clinics across Acadiana prior to commencing full-time employment with MedXcel in November of 2012.
Chet enjoys the diverse practice of an occupational medicine and walk-in clinic, where he is able to care for a wide variety of patients spanning from pediatrics to elders’ health challenges, routine sports physicals to rigorous occupation-specific physicals, as well as injuries. His extensive background in emergency medicine has equipped him to handle a variety of minor emergencies within a clinic setting. Chet prides himself on providing excellent and thorough care in an efficient and timely manner, often using his sense of humor to make patients feel at ease.
Chet is an avid football and baseball fan, music enthusiast, and enjoys cooking outdoors and keeping up with current events. His favorite way to spend off time is with his wife and three children, watching movies at home, playing baseball, basketball or video games with the boys, and cooking. After many years of work in the ER, he appreciates the opportunity to work in a setting that allows him to be available for his family in the evenings and on weekends.
Lena Nelson FNP-C
Lena is a native of Abbeville, LA and a 2009 graduate of Vermilion Catholic High School. Lena completed her undergraduate degree in Nursing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in December 2013 and began her career at University Hospital & Clinics in Lafayette, La., where she worked in the Critical Care Unit. She has spent most of her career in the critical care setting but has also worked in the emergency room and in med-surg units. During this time, Lena made the decision to pursue a Master’s Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing at ULL. While pursuing her master’s degree, Lena worked as an agency registered nurse at various area hospitals including Abbeville General in the Intensive Care Unit, the Emergency Department, and the medical-surgical floor.
Lena chose to focus on Family Nurse Practitioner for her studies in an effort to provide healthcare services to all age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics. Lena’s scope of practice allows her to perform wellness exams for men, women, and children, sports physicals, occupational specific exams, care for minor illnesses and injuries and provide primary care to her patients.
Lena enjoys playing tennis, fishing, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She appreciates and looks forward to the opportunity to provide care to the Vermilion Parish community, which is the place she calls home. Lena is the daughter of Benjamin Nelson and Cathy Zenon Nelson of Abbeville.
